As practitioners in a rapidly-developing field, we are deeply committed to contributing to the growing body of knowledge surrounding the use of natural materials through ongoing testing and research.  In 2011, we conducted and published research on the thermal and moisture performance of seven different straw bale buildings across Vermont and New York; you can find the study here, or in the Publications section of our website.  Additionally, we have worked with students from Worcester Polytechnic Institute to conduct research into the structural and moisture properties of straw bale and natural plaster building systems.  We continue to monitor and evaluate the structures with which we are involved to accumulate more data concerning their long-term performance, and have a series of research projects in the works.  If you are a research student in need of an adviser, or an organization looking for a consultant on research into natural building systems and techniques, please contact us to discuss your project.
