We at New Frameworks Natural Building offer a broad range of natural and creative building services. We love to work with our hands and natural materials to create both structures and finishes that are inspiring, functional, and comfortable. Based in the Northeastern United States, we at New Frameworks are committed to helping to grow the knowledge and practical use of natural building materials and processes in our region.
In the warm season/s, roughly April-October, we build walls, plaster and raise frames. In the cold season, roughly October-March, we focus on interior finishes such as paints and stone and tile.
Wall Systems
New Frameworks strives to offer natural wall systems designed and built in such a way that they work well in our wet, cold climate. We can provide many natural wall systems, and hybrids of, such as strawbale, woodchip-clay, light straw-clay, and cob. Read more wall systems
Natural Wall Finishes
We at New Frameworks Natural Building also are proud to offer natural wall finishes that will make your home or building beautiful. The pallatte of natural pigments can be combined with the perfect, custom recipe for the application. From the smoothness and strength of clay/lime plaster finished with a lime wash to the soft beauty and durability of our handmade milk paint sealed with linseed oil, our natural finishes are an asset to any structure. Natural Adobe, Tile and Stone Floors
Flooring is an important choice for any structure. A natural flooring choice that can make sense in some applications is an adobe floor. An earthen mix that is lime-stabilized, and finished with a hardened wax and oil finish, adobe floors dry hard; yet they remain pliable and soft to the footfall in a way that is unlike any other flooring choice. An adobe floor, like a tile or stone floor, is a good combination with radiant heating. All that warmth is stored and radiated out of the massive earthen slab, or in the case of tile or stone, the mortar and stone or ceramic unit itself. Read more natural adobe, tile and stone floors
Greener Tile and Stone Finishes
There are so many good applications for tile or stone- everything from bathrooms, kitchens, entryways, living areas to art accents that are also functional, like our showerpans and bale wall/foundation dividers. Why is tile or stone a necessarily natural building activity? For starters, in Vermont we live in one of the best areas for local granite and marble. And most importantly, we at New Frameworks use greener tile and stone setting products from Phoenix Organics. Read more greener tile and stone finishes
Timberframing
Timberframing is a time-honored craft especially honed in New England. We at New Frameworks Natural Building recognize that in our region wood can be a renewable, ecological resource if properly harvested, and thus earns a right to be a part of the scope of natural building. Timberframes are a perfect match with strawbale wall systems; the timberframe is the skeleton of the structure, while the bales act as a wonderfully insulative, ecological wall system that needs minimal additional framing. At New Frameworks we are working to integrate timberframing into our natural building repertoire. Through collaboration with local timberframing companies and artisans, we provide simple, functional, and beautiful frames in a traditional New England style. Read more about timberframing
