Natural Wall Finishes
Clay/lime plasters
New Frameworks custom-makes plasters using clay, sand, lime, straw and pigments to cover and beautify wall systems of all types. For natural wall systems (bales, wood chips, cob) we mix plasters to create a skin that is more permeable to vapor. The plaster recipes we use encourage moisture to gravitate towards the plaster coat itself and ultimately to evaporate into the outside air; rather than allowing moisture to become trapped within the wall system and cause damage. We also mix plasters for conventional wall systems (drywall or Stresskin panels) to give your space a softer and more organic feel. For interior plasters, we focus on using local clay, sand, and straw. For exterior plasters (or other areas that receive a lot of wear and tear), we make lime/sand plasters which are known for their durability over time.
Natural Paints
New Frameworks Natural Building custom-makes nontoxic casein paint (milk-based), lime washes and alises (clay paint) using clay, sand, lime and pigments. Using earth-based pigments such as iron oxide (rust) and ochre, we have a huge palette of colors ranging from soft whites and yellows/golds, to deep reds, to vibrant blues and greens. We also add special ingredients such as mica, linseed oil or wheat paste to make the paints sparkle, last longer, and have texture, to suit your particular application.
Natural pigments
We at New Frameworks use naturally-occurring pigments to color our plasters and paints. Reds, purples, browns, yellows, greens, and greys are commonly from clays and iron oxides (rust). Other brighter colors, like blues and vibrant greens are from mineral ores. We prioritize using pigments that are as sustainably and locally harvested whenever possible.
