Energy Performance of Straw Bale Buildings

Building performance research on seven buildings in Vermont and New York.

New Frameworks Natural Building conducted an extensive building performance research testing project on seven buildings in Vermont and New York, evaluating thermal performance, air infiltration, and moisture durability using blower-door testing, infrared thermography, and pin, probe, and scan moisture testing of both plaster and straw.  The results of their research are informing best common practices for straw bale construction in the northeast.
